#83 - the 100 for 20muses.
Jan. 17th, 2016 01:56 pmI'm not usually into 20in20 challenges, but the inspiration post at
20muses was so amazing that I had to sign up. My claims were The 100 and The Shannara Chronicles originally, but I couldn't make the Shannara caps bend to my will, so I changed it only to The 100. As a part of my new year resolutions, I focused on text and also tried some more complex compositions, so without further ado, here are the icons.
[30] The 100

Theme: Contemporary Art

01. Ian Francis - this was inspired by Ian's overall style, negative space and red & black combo, which is probably my favourite, because these are my favourite colors ♥ And they really work well with Octavia's black hair.
02. Ian Francis - again, inspiration by Ian with deep black and reds with high contrast and shadows to bring some focus on Raven's face.
03. Ian Francis - red works so well with Raven's caps, so I just had to make another one :D
04. David Shillinglaw - this icon was inspired by the complexity of his art and TEXT, I'm not usually good at multiple images composition, but I really liked how this one turned out.
05. Line Osmundsen - the icon was inspired by her vibrant colors and sharp geometric forms.
06. Alice X. Zhang - painting is not my strong suit, but I did my best to try something inspired by Alice style. I made it colorfull and vibrant and with subtle touch of painted hair.
07. Alonsa Guevara - this one was inspired by her exploration of the nature and female beauty. Again I used strong vibrant colors and added a nature texture to somewhat bring a fantasy feeling to the icon.
08. David Shillinglaw - not much though went to this one, maybe that's because it's one of my least favourites in the set. It was inspired by the word text.
09. Alonsa Guevara - again, nothing I can really say about this one, it was inspired by the words colorfull and nature, as this time I decided to keep the original forrest background.
10. Line Osmundsen - this one was inspired by her use of shapes, vibrant colors and the color green.
11. Xue Liang - the icon was inspired by his use of levels, mixed with stock nature textures and scenery.
12. Louise LeBourgeois - it was inspired by the icy blue colors and the simplicity of her work.
13. David Shillinglaw - again, this icon was inspired by the complexity of his art and text.
14. Alonsa Guevara - inspired by her overall work - a nature texture, strong female character and shadows/lighting which bring a magical/fantasy feel to the icon.
15. Line Osmundsen - inspired by her use of sharp geometric forms and female characters and the color blue.
16. Louise LeBourgeois - this one was inspired by the deep blue water colors and the word motion.
17. David Shillinglaw - inspired by the complexity of his art and text, also Octvia's character is a good fit for his general style to explore the human nature, because her character has grown so much through season 1 and 2.
18. Alice X. Zhang - another failed attempt at painting inspired by her art. At least I tried ...
19. Richard Whadcock - inspired by the overall feel of his work, with focus on muted colors and a balance between dark and light.
20. SIT - inspired by the words: dark, black and white and simple

Date: 2016-01-17 12:58 pm (UTC)I find it much easier to work with just one color (and it's shades of course), when I try to work with more colors it always ends up a mess :D

Date: 2016-01-17 07:36 pm (UTC)The colouring and lighting and use of brushes in 2 and 9 is stunning, I love those two icons so much and I cannot wait to use them. I also love 1 and 3. Great use of the text and just- the background use is so amazing without it ever distracting from that what you try to capture. Absolutealy beautiful.

Date: 2016-01-17 07:48 pm (UTC)I actually thought to scrap 2 and 9, I wasn't completely satisfied with how they turned out, but I was too lazy to make new ones :D And I'm glad that I kept them in the end! :D

3 and 4: Perfect composition and colors! I love your text skill!
6: I love the way you painted her hair!

13 and 17: I love the blending on the background and text! (AGAIN)
19: The mood of the icon is stunning and the composition, blending are fantastic!
I will take 3 and 4. (even thought my favorite ship is Bellamy&Murphy :p), 19 :) Will credit if I use them =)

Date: 2016-01-18 08:19 pm (UTC)But your other icons are also great. 3, in particular, is one of my favorites here. It's just really phenomenal with that interesting texture use, text use and all the deep reds. I also like the little yellow accents that bring out the text. Love the painted hair look in 6, the coloring and lighting in 9, as well as the composition and use of levels (especially in the top and middle ones) in 11.
As for the alts, I really like the blue coloring and stock use in 27, along with the gritty yet simplistic look of 30. And honestly I also really love 22. I think that's just a really well-conceived red icon all around.
